Yuzu Dosed began as a conversation--two artisans, myself and another, trading ideas, sharpening instinct with experience. I suggested Yuzu Citrus from Japan, sharp and clean like a blade with a tad of flower-patterned nuance. The other artisan countered with Rosemary (Verbenone) from Spain: green, dry, and razor-fresh, and Rose Otto from Afghanistan. But this is no ordinary Rose Otto. This is a steel-facted Rose Otto. The result: a top accord with tension and clarity, with the addition of Pink Peppercorn, Wild Lemongrass, and Bergamot cutting through the air like cold sunlight.
This isn’t a work that drifts. It hits. It opens bright and fast, then settles into something deeper.
At its heart: Jasmine Sambac, the bold, masculine jasmine of the East, paired with a small dose of Jasmine Grandiflorum (CO2 extraction). Together, they carry the fire of instinct, refined by control.
Then comes something special that he suggested: smoke & tar.
A small quantity of Cade brings in a mannish edge. Clean, dry, elemental. It's the scent of charred wood after the flame. A line drawn in fire. A perfect foil to the top and middle.
In the base, Santalum album from Sri Lanka delivers depth—true sandalwood: creamy, resinous, unwavering. And the uncommon Labdanum essential oil, NOT the absolute, which is in so much out there, anchors the composition in a powerful trail. It could be slightly animalic, but without the animal.
