Narcotic Woods

Narcotic Woods is an oil-based mukhallat in the Eastern tradition, where top, heart, and base aren’t clean steps, but a slow dissolve. Here, the florals don’t sit above the woods, they blend with them, they are an accompaniment, not a stand-out note. The resins don’t “finish” the blend; they become the skin.

It begins in a shimmer of bergamot and Moroccan neroli, a shining sunlight, slightly bitter opening. Almost at once, the deeper current rises: tons of Mysore sandalwood (buttery, sacred, soft-edged from two dilltillers, one of which is resident artisan AlHind Oud) and two expressions from woods: smooth eaglewood essential oil and the darker, more textured and romantic leadership of Laos oud (core). Together, they create a middle that is polished and woody. The woods aren’t smoky; they’re heated.

Then the narcotic bloom unfurls: white champaca, creamy and incandescent, and jasmine sambac (natural, heart-cut) with its humid, greenery. Imagine the ethereal, full-spectrum Blue lotus CO₂ extraction weaving through this woody darkness, velvety and enigmatic in the most captivating way. It is less a “flower note” than a dream-state. As the florals expand, they don’t brighten the blend; they deepen it, turning the woods sensual, as opposed to a jasmine-lotus accord.

In the blurred middle-to-base, where this style truly lives, guaiacwood brings a quiet, embered warmth. Palo santo adds a resinous, citrus-woody lift that feels spiritual. Organic cistus (labdanum essential oil) provides the sticky, ambery, resinous  backbone, like warm lacquer on wood. Finally, a veil of Chatham Shores grey ambergris tincture does not announce itself so much as edit the sillage: smoothing edges, adding a saline warmth, and making the whole blend feel expensive and addictive.

Narcotic Woods wears like an evening ritual: polished sandalwood and dark oud wrapped in white florals and blue-lotus velvet, then sealed with resin, balsam, and the whisper of ambergris. The longer it sits on you, the less you can tell where “heart” ends and “base” begins—which is exactly the point.
